Harbour Bears the real winner as David and Barbara take victory in the quarry.
Larne Motor Club decided to support the Harbour Bears Pre-School Building Fund in 2019 and a special event was created as the main event for the cause. LMC approached Robinsons Quarry Masters in Glenwherry to see if they would grant us permission to organise this event on their premises. The company were fantastic in supporting the event and were only too happy to be a part of the fund raiser.
Organisation then commenced and local companies quickly sponsored the Harbour Bears fund raiser. Top Claim Consultants, Pro 22 Innovations, Clean Toilets NI and Pharmacy Plus quickly supported the event and next came the turn of the competitors. It was estimated that approximately thirty cars would enter the event. However when the entries opened, over fifty cars entered within the first hour and the club had to stop taking entries at seventy.
On the morning of the event everyone started to gather on a chilly Saturday morning and when everyone was ready to go, Clerk of the Course Alistair Carmichael completed his drivers briefing and the cars set off to their test sites.
Each crew had to complete the sixteen tests and everyone was smiling from ear to ear. Even Harbour Bears representatives got a taste of the sport when Fiona, Patricia and Mary braved the passenger seat for a spin around the tests.
A great day was had by all with David Crothers and Barbara Kane taking the fastest time of the day, from Eamon Byrne and Joanne Lenehan.
Thanks to all the competitors, marshals and event supporters for helping make a great day, which helped raise £3500 for the Harbour Bears.
Our vision is to secure the future of Harbour Bears Pre School for the next 50 years and beyond. Approximately 8 years ago we purchased the ‘Old Scout Hall’ which is located opposite the Curran Bowling Pavilion on the Curran Road. Our plan is to invest a total of £120,000 to renovate this hall, by doing so this will open up a number of exciting opportunities! To achieve this goal, we need to raise in the region of £90,000! Over the past 6 weeks we have laid out the new car park, installed new drainage, reduced the height of our trees, dropped the public pavement to allow access to our car park, brightened up the exterior of the hall and secured the site by installing a new fence and gates.
We need your help and the help of the community of Larne to realise this goal. If you can assist us in any way, please contact us via our FaceBook page ‘Harbour Bears Preschool Fundraising’ OR email us: firstname.lastname@example.org OR please feel free to phone us on 07504966795. Thank-you for your support.
